The T H Rogers Vanguard Magnet Program provides a stimulating and challenging environment that fosters development in academic skills, creativity, and leadership in Gifted and Talented (GT) students. Our Kindergarten –Eighth grade curriculum is taught through an interdisciplinary approach to study reading, writing, mathematics, social studies, and science while emphasizing research and critical thinking skills. Computers and video technology also enhance the classroom experience. A broad variety of activities such as sports, academics competitions, field trips, and fine arts programs enrich the school experience providing maximum opportunity in both academic and personal growth. T H Rogers students’ academic performance is highly acclaimed as evident in the superb TAKS and Stanford Test results. The students also demonstrate outstanding competitive spirit as they participate in Academic, Athletic and Artistic challenges.

Application Process
Apply-Parents submit completed application with all documentation. Out of district applicants will be processed only if there is a need to enter a 2nd phase of application.
Test- Kindergarten testing dates (January and February) and locations are listed on the application. Testing for entering grades 1 – 8 is offered at T. H. Rogers on two specified Saturdays in January.
Qualification Status- Using test scores, report card grades, teacher observation or parent rating the coordinator will complete a GT matrix to determine if a student qualifies for the Vanguard Program.
Lottery-All qualified students are entered into a lottery. Each grade has a specific number of available spaces. The entry level grades at T. H. Rogers are kindergarten and 6th grade. Twenty-five percent of space at entry levels are reserved for siblings.
Status Notification- In March, parents are notified of the qualification status of the students.
Parent Decision- Parents must confirm acceptance by completing the forms in the acceptance packet by a specific date in April. Parents who choose not to accept placement should also notify T. H. Rogers of their decision.
Waitlist Operation- When placement is declined, students are called from the waitlist in the order that they are listed. Waitlist are active throughout the summer vacation period.
Appeals- Parents of “not-qualified” students may appeal the matrix decision by presenting recent test results to determine if the new information will change the qualification status of the student. If the student qualifies at this time then he/she will be placed at the bottom of the existing waitlist.
Registration-Enrollment into T. H. Rogers is NOT finalized until the parent completes registration paperwork with the school’s registrar.
