Mock Election at Stevenson
from the classrooms of
R. Gentry and D. Seals

Schedule of Events
Tuesday, - Each student wrote a
"campaign speech", which was read aloud on a voluntary basis.
Classroom activities were what makes a good speech or saying what the public wants to
hear, and about a candidate's personal views.
Wednesday - "Campaign Hat Day, as each
student was given a patriotic Boater hat and a patriotic sun visor to
wear. The classroom activities were about the economics of politics, campaign
funding, raising the cash to run for a political office and how that money
should be
spent.
Thursday - Classroom activities that will
support student involvement in a DEBATE. Discussion of the "chosen issues",
preparing to answer questions about individual beliefs and campaign promises.
Friday - THE GREAT DEBATE - Using the
speeches from Tuesday, we formulated a list of "issues". Each student who
chose, participated in a "public debate".
Monday - VOTING DAY - The culminating
activity of our project. The librarian was kind enough to allow us to have our
voting in the same location as the official voting on Tuesday. Students had to
bring their voter registration cards to receive an official ballot.
NO ELECTIONEERING WITHIN A
SPECIFIC DISTANCE OF EACH "VOTER".
