Academy D Super Math Projects

Academy D Math students completed a 5th Six Weeks project which was designed to apply representation of data to real-world business situations. Students imagined themselves in business 10 years after college graduation and made a display to show the progress of their own business.

Students decided what their business would be called, what it would sell, and if they would own the business alone or with a partner. Students decided if the advertising spokesperson would be themselves, a celebrity, or cartoon character. They created a slogan for selling their product. They made tables showing 10 years earnings then graphed the data on line graphs to show business change over a 10 year period. Numbers for sales had to represent reasonable  numbers appropriate to the type of item sold.

Circle and bar graphs were used to show relationships comparing their company to competitors. Venn diagrams demonstrated their company's place in their particular market. Creative student extensions included power point, printing business cards, making models of products, photographing products, and written business reports. Products developed ranged from beauty and fashion to cars and tire rims and possibly a future inventor who proposed bubble gum you chew to lose weight.

Mrs. Rodgers was proud to see all of her students "taking care of business."
