SMS received a $425,000 grant from the Houston Annenberg Challenge.  The grant will allow Sharpstown High, Sharpstown Middle, Pat Neff Elementary, and Ed White Elementary Schools to work together as the Sharpstown Learning Community.

21st Century

Sharpstown is now part of the Cooperative for After Schools. The school was awarded $300,000 to become a 21st Century Community. Students have an opportunity to take part in after school recreational and academic activities.

First Things First

Sharpstown Middle was awarded a five-year grant through the Department of Education and the Institute for Research and Reform in Education. The reform initiative, First Things First, provides a framework for reform, including consulting staff and technical assistance, to help the school undertake or expand the reform process. The project is part of a national replication effort and is being evaluated by an independent group of researchers. "We will have hard research to support the changes we are making. Everything we are doing is being tracked and evaluated, from our test scores to our teaching methods," said Bullock. We have made a 100% commitment to changing the system to benefit kids," said Bullock. "We are proud to be the pioneers."
