James D. Ryan Middle School is a secondary school located in Houston, Tx.  Ryan is a part of the Houston Independent School District (HISD).  Ryan Middle School serves 6th through 8th grade students in much of the Third Ward area and a very small portion of Midtown Houston.  We are a small school with BIG ideas.

Ryan is one of eight HISD middle schools who offer a Vanguard Neighborhood Program.  The Vanguard Neighborhood Programs (formerly known as Neighborhood G/T) are designed to meet the needs of G/T students in grades K-12 at their neighborhood (zoned) schools.  Both Vanguard Magnet and Vanguard Neighborhood programs provide a differentiated curriculum by modifying the depth, complexity, and pacing of the general school program.  What makes Ryan’s Vanguard Program unique is our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focus.

Our Mission is to immerse students in a creative and challenging curriculum that will expand their minds, prepare them to compete successfully for the best high schools and colleges, and encourages them to be life-long learners.

We challenge our students with advanced academic instruction in core subject areas, where the curriculum is differentiated in depth and complexity to meet their needs.  Our curriculum focuses on:

                                  1.  College Preparation

                                  2.  Career Orientation

                                  3.  Cultural Diversity
