Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2002-03 school year. I hope that each of you had a summer filled with good times.

We are completing the third week of school and we are well into teaching your children the skills they will need to be successful both in school and in adult life. It is important that you stay involved in your children’s daily school activities and monitor their progress. Please take the time to:

• • Talk to your children daily about each of their classes and their interaction with school staff and other students.
  • Review their school planner/calendar daily for homework assignments and test dates.
  • Review Progress Reports and Report Cards. We send home grades two times every 6 weeks. The first progress report goes home on September 11.
  • Read the Team Newsletters that will be sent home with every report card. The opening year newsletters went home on September 11. These newsletters contain important information about the curriculum, as well as schedules and dates for conferencing and activities.
  • Read the Patriot News that goes home with students the last Thursday of every month. The first edition for this school year went out on August 29.
  • Check out the school web page. http://ms.houstonisd.org/reverems
  • Call the school and communicate with the teachers often.
  • Visit the school often. You are always welcome for lunch. If you would like to visit your child in the classroom, please call the counselors’ office and schedule a time. 24-hour notice is requested for classroom visits.

Make certain that you check the following everyday with your child:

• • Homework – All students need to turn in homework that is done neatly and completely.
  • School Supplies – All students should have all needed supplies for every class everyday.
  • Dress Code – All students must be in compliance with the dress code everyday.

Remember that campus supervision of students does not begin until 8:00 a.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. Please do not drop off your children prior to 8:00 a.m. in the morning and be sure to pick them up prior to 4:30 p.m. The only exception to the 4:30 pick up time is if your child is involved in extracurricular activities or the YMCA after school program.

Our goals for the school year focus on the continued academic growth of your children. We are a community service organization ready to provide the best for your children.

With your help, I guarantee that your children will be successful.

Please refer to your Patriot News for a complete monthly activity calendar and the HISD calendar for a complete holiday listing. Also, remember early dismissal days on September 27, November 8, December 19, February 14, April 11, and May 29.

A note on after school pick-up: Please make use of all open parking spaces if you are waiting to pick up your child after school, and be courteous of others by not blocking their access into and out of the parking lot.
