G/T Letter to Parents
Daniel Ortiz, Jr. Middle School Dear Daniel Ortiz Middle School Parents/Guardians: Daniel Ortiz Middle School is proud to provide parents with a wide variety of choices in public education. One of these choices is the Gifted and Talented (G/T)/Pre-AP Program. This program will be designed to meet the needs of qualified G/T/Pre-AP students. G/T or Pre-AP students are those identified by professional qualified persons who perform at, or show the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment. These are students who require differentiated educational programs and/or services beyond those normally provided by the regular school program in order to realize their contribution to self and society. Students who qualify for the program will be capable of high performance capability in academic, intellectual, creative, and/or artistic areas. Ortiz will provide a program that serves the high achieving bright student and is differentiated to meet the needs of the G/T/Pre-AP student. Advanced skills will be introduced through traditional subject areas by inquiry and problem-based learning. Services will be provided in the core areas of English, reading, social studies, science, and mathematics. If you would like your child assessed for G/T/Pre-AP services, please stop by the Ortiz office or request an application to be sent home with your child.
