Dress Code

 ORTIZ MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS FOR SUCCESS DRESS CODE

Uniforms are required for all students at Ortiz Middle School.  The uniform must fit the student properly, not to exceed one (1) size above the correct size.  Baggy or sagging  pants and oversized shirts must be tucked in completely around the waist at all times while on campus.  A student may not be admitted into class if his/her uniform is out of compliance.  If there is a difference of opinion as to the appropriateness of dress and groooming, the final determination will be the judgement of the campus administration. 

STANDARD UNIFORM POLICY

IDENTIFICATION

bullet Student identification cards will be issued to the students at the beginning of the school year.
bulletThe ID must be worn with the lanyard provided.
bullet The ID must be worn around the student’s neck at all times while on campus.
bullet The first badge is free.  There will be a $5 charge for a replacement ID and $1 for the lanyard.
bullet A temporary ID may be purchased in the event the student leaves his/her ID at home.  Each temporary ID is valid for one (1) school day.

SHIRTS

bullet 6th Grade students will wear a solid red polo style shirt.
bullet 7th Grade students will wear a solid white polo style shirt.
bullet 8th Grade students will wear a solid navy blue polo style shirt.
bullet The shirts must have a collar.
bullet Shirts must be long enough to tuck in at all times.
bullet If an undershirt is worn, it must be solid white.
bullet Appropriate school organization t-shirts are permitted, with prior administrative approval.

PANTS/SHORTS/SKIRTS

All bottoms should be khaki or navy blue cotton or polyester.  Blue jeans are not permitted unless principal approval has been given.  Shorts and skirts are to be knee-length.  Shorter shorts or skirts are not permitted.  A belt must be worn with all pants, shorts, and skirts if belt loops are present on the clothing.  Large metal belts are NOT allowed (i.e. name plate belts).  Pants must be worn at the waist, not on the hips or bottoms.

SHOES

Footwear must be worn at all times.  Tennis shoes are the only shoes allowed.  All tennis shoes must have laces to tie and must have a back to them.  Tennis shoes must be solid black or white in color; all others are not permitted.  Shoelaces must be black or white.  Tennis shoes must be properly tied at all times. 

JACKETS/SWEATERS

bullet No pull over sweaters.
bullet Only jackets/sweaters with zippers or button down fronts are allowed.
bullet All outerwear is to be unzipped or unbuttoned at all times while on campus.

INAPPROPRIATE SCHOOL ATTIRE

bullet Walking shorts/skirts/skorts/jumpers that are not knee-length
bullet Oversized flare legged, oversized bell bottoms, hip huggers, or overalls of any kind
bullet Spandex or Lycra tops
bullet Suspenders
bullet Clothing that allows under garments to be visible
bullet Clothing referring to drugs, violence, tobacco, or with inappropriate language may not be worn and/or gang related graphics or images
bullet Caps, hats, or headwear may not be worn on campus.  This includes bandanas and du-rags.
bullet No body piercing is allowed other than on the earlobes.
bullet Wallet chains and large belt buckles are not allowed.
bullet Jewelry: No large emblems, chains, or medallions may be worn.
bullet No cargo pants
bullet Teeth Grills of any kind are not permissible.
bullet No flip-flops
bullet No boots, high heels, sandals, and open toed shoes
