About Our School
Daniel Ortiz Middle School has an enrollment of approximately 1045 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. There are three academic wings, one per grade level. Each wing contains three academic clusters, including Reading, Social Studies, English, Math, and Science. Each cluster has its own fully equipped Science lab. Students have four classes each day. Students are responsible for purchasing a school planner to help keep them organized. We have two computer labs and a Career and Technology computer lab. Every classroom is equipped with a monitor to broadcast from an AV source (VCR or DVD), PC source, and/or closed-circuit cable. We have mobile announcement carts, providing us the capability to broadcast live from any point within the building. We are also equipped with surveillance cameras to ensure maximum school security. Our school library is the first thing you see when you walk in the front door of the rotunda. It is equipped with approximately 20,000 books, including non-fiction, fiction, reference, and professional books. Additionally, the library's on-line catalog can be accessed from twelve computers which are available on the library floor. Our fine arts wing includes an orchestra room, band hall, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 400 people. The auditorium also includes dressing rooms and a prop storage area. The band hall and orchestra room contain five sound-proof practice rooms. We're very proud of our PE/Athletic Department. We have a performance gym and a practice gym with electronic score boards and a wireless sound system. Our cafeteria is an inviting, open area, seating 300 students at a time.
