Mission StatementThe mission of Jackson Middle School is to provide all students the opportunity to develop to their fullest potential intellectually, emotionally, physically, socially, and culturally. Our belief is that we have high expectations for all students, and we are accountable for their learning. Jackson students can and will learn. Through the commitment and involvement of the community, parents, students, and school staff, we will fulfill our mission. About Jackson Middle SchoolStonewall Jackson Middle School is located at 5100 Polk Street. The main building was constructed in 1925 with an addition built in 1980 which was remodeled due to the devastating fire that was experienced in January of 1999. One thousand one hundred eighty-one (1181) students were enrolled at Jackson for the 2002-2003 school year. The ethnic breakdown of the student population was 95.5% Hispanic, 2.6% African American, 1.5% White, .3% Asian/Pacific Islander and .1% Native American. Title 1 services were provided to all students. Approximately 91% of the students qualified for free/reduced lunch and breakfast. Jackson is under the leadership of Ana L. Zamarripa who envisions the education of all children as an on-going development of literacy and technological skills. These skills are a conduit to the achievement of academic and social excellence. The school provides a friendly, meaningful, respectful, and professional learning environment for all students and community members. Jacksons students are encouraged to take an active part in the community and to become skilled in both scholastic and athletic arenas to prepare for high school and beyond. Read more ... |
