| MESSAGE FROM MR. CARDENAS, KARATE
INSTRUCTOR: I wanted to
let you know that we had a competition this past Saturday. The
competition was called martial Arts mania and it was a demonstration
competition. Our school competed against 27 other schools and 37 other
teams at this tournament. Our beginner team finished 1st beating out
our rival Hamilton which got third in the division. This is the first
time we have placed in the past 6 years, and to make it a bigger
achievement, we not only placed but brought home the gold. Our
intermediate team finished 4th in their division which is also a great
achievement. They missed out on a medal by fractions of a point. This
was great accomplishment and I am proud of both teams. They put in a
lot of hard work and many hours of practice to do this well.
The big prize of the
competition was not just the medals, but an opportunity to privately
perform in front of Chuck Norris at one of his functions. Only the
winners of the divisions have this honor and we happen to be one of
the 3.
A special thanks to Leti
Partida and P4L for their sponsorship and support and to the staff for
being so supportive. If you know a student on the Hogg Demo Team
please commend them on their performance. |

HOGG MIDDLE SCHOOL SHINES @
CENTRAL REGION REAGAN FEEDER PATTERN
MIDDLE SCHOOL FORUM
Hogg Middle School's
presence was felt last April 24, 2008 during the Reagan Feeder Pattern
Middle School Forum which was held at Hamilton M.S. We had seven
tables fully decorated and prepared to showcase all the excellent
programs that we have here at Hogg. Robotics students, cheerleaders,
LCDC cadets in full uniform, Karate students, teachers, and
administrators were delighted to talk to everyone who attended the
meeting. HISD's Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Karen Soehnge-Garga,
walked among the tables and talked to our students about their
interests and their plans for their higher educational She was very
happy to learn that some of our students were selected to participate
in the GeoFORCE Program this summer and that all of the 8th grade
students a the forum had been accepted to a Magnet program in the
district. Ms. Adriana Tamez, Central Region's Superintendent, stopped
by and examined the fuel cell cars the students had brought with them.
Mrs. Natasha Kamrani, our district's Board Member, was escorted by our
principal Imelda Medrano as she visited with our students. Our
Executive Principal, Ms. Sandra Benavides, as well as our district's
Magnet Specialist, Ms. Katherine Koch, also stopped by to talk to our
students and learn about our programs.
The Forum ended at 8 pm with the promise of future meetings and Open
Houses where parents would be able to visit and know the neighborhood
schools. |
