Fondren Parents &
Community:
As the 2007-2008 academic year draws to a close, it is time to review
our accomplishments and explore what the future holds for Fondren Middle
School.
Thanks to your efforts, Fondren Middle School is strong, healthy,
vibrant, productive, and on the move. This year, your community school
advanced in every key area - teaching, learning, guidance and
counseling, and the promotion of a college bound culture.
This academic year began with the transition to a new principal and
several administrative staff members as well as the addition of 13 new
faculty members to our campus. Our teacher quality has improved by every
measure as a result of the dedication of our faculty and staff and the
strength of our academic programs. Below is a listing of our Texas
Assessment of Academic Skills (TAKS) gains from the previous school
year.

While instructional growth was a key highlight of our year, there were
many others:
-
We improved student
life by promoting student academic and social achievement through
grade level contests, individual recognition of academic achievements,
and perfect attendance. Popular amongst our students was the bi-
monthly “Smarty Pants” Campaign where teachers recognized the highest
achieving student for scholarship and behavior and those who were
headed toward the goal. In addition, our students participated in
several community based service projects throughout the year.
-
We met our students Guidance and
Counseling needs by providing them counseling and medical screenings.
We moved forward with the focus on the “healthy” child by encouraging
our students to make right choices in their daily life.
-
Fondren students
also had a College Bound year through our Field Cultural Experiences.
Our students learned about college life by visiting Rice University,
University of St. Thomas, Houston Baptist University and Sam Houston
State University. With our amazing university partners, the Mighty
Mustangs toured academic classrooms and dorms as well as talked to
college students about their experiences!!!
As we look back on a remarkable and productive year, we see our middle
school that is moving forward academically because of your dedicated
efforts and commitment. Your contribution to the children we serve
becomes more meaningful every day. You are a valued member of the
Mustang family.
I
congratulate you on a successful year, wish you a safe, productive
summer and highly encourage every Fondren Mustang to read five (5) books
this summer.
