Math & Science Night
April 23, 2009
Math Night began with a spaghetti dinner for students and
their families. During dinner, Mr. Martin spoke about Edison's students'
successful year with Stanford test scores and with TAKS 8th grade scores. He
showed everyone how Edison ranks with other schools in the East area. It
ended with our goal: Recognized in 2009.
After dinner everyone adjourned to the auditorium for math
activities such as measuring and mixing ingredients for pound cake and then
baking and eating the cake. They also measured and mixed ingredients for
trail mix. They got to take both recipes home.
Another activity was spatial recognition using a 3-D shape
and then recreating that shape with blocks. After that they drew how the
shape looked from the front and side. This is a skill tested in Math TAKS.
