Welcome to the 2009-2010 Deady Middle School website!  Deady Middle School is located in the heart of the historic Harrisburg community and has been an integral part of the community for more than 75 years.

Deady Middle School is the proud home of the Communication Arts Magnet Program, a school-within-a-school program which includes an enrollment of approximately 350 students in grades 6-8.  The Magnet students have a variety of communications elective classes from which to choose, including web design, journalism, video editing, and multimedia publications.  Magnet electives for 2009-2010 include yearbook and newspaper.

Additionally, Deady has a wide selection of electives and extracurricular activities for all students including music, art, drama, drums, mariachis, dance, LCDC, yearbook and computer applications.  Since 2008-09 school year we have added band, advanced art and robotics to our fine arts elective line up.  Deady also boasts many award-winning athletic teams for both boys and girls, a Kickstart karate program and a 21st Century after school program for academic tutorials and enrichment.

Deady currently has 1018 students enrolled in grades 6-8.  All of our teachers are considered to be highly qualified under No Child Left Behind.  Deady is rated an Acceptable school by both HISD and the TEA and is ranked in the top 15 HISD middle schools using the ASPIRE value-added instruction model.  Deady students scored within the "recognized" range on the Spring 2008 TAKS tests in reading, writing and social studies and in the "acceptable" range in math and science for grades 6-8.

In addition to highly qualified teachers, Deady staff also includes two Principal Interns, two Assistant Principals, a Dean of Instruction, a Magnet Coordinator, a Title I Coordinator, a Literacy Coach, a 21st Century After School Coordinator, two full time campus police officers, and several community social workers.

We encourage Deady parents to be active in their children's education. We host a PTO meeting once each month and have scheduled many exciting activities for the coming year. Our PTO recently raised money for the SPARK Park, which opened to the public in November. The inspirational mosaic structures, winding walking track and outdoor covered classroom add beauty to our community and offer a safe, serene place for families and community members to gather, play, exercise and relax.

I am very proud of what our teachers and students are accomplishing here at Deady.  I  welcome parents and community members to visit our school and see all the exciting programs we have to offer the children of this community.  Please feel free to contact me at the school to set up a tour. Come and see why so many parents and students make Deady Middle School their "school of choice" in HISD.
