What is stepping? Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussive dance in which the participant's entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken word, and hand claps. Though stepping may be performed by an individual, it is generally performed by groups of three or more, often in arrangements that resemble military formations. The Burbank step team was first formed during the 2008-2009 school year by Ms. Brittany Jennings. During the 2009-2010 school year, Ms. Jennings will be joined by Ms. Monique Wilkes. The team has performed at various Burbank activities such as the Christmas program, Black History program and others. They have also participated in the 2009 3rd Annual MLK Youth Parade in downtown Houston, TX as well as an end of the year competition against other schools. This step team is offered to all students and tryouts will be September 28, 2009 - October 2, 2009. Hope to see you there!
