Parent Involvement Policy
2006-2007
Carter Godwin Woodson K-8 School is actively committed to promoting the highest level of success for all our students. With this goal as our focus, we seek to establish and maintain strong and effective partnerships with parents and the community. This year we have taken dramatic steps to impact the direction of student achievement. We recognize parents’ value as viable partners in the educational growth of our children. It is our policy to encourage and include parents in school activities because we believe only a cohesive effort will yield a high level of student achievement that we expect to accomplish. We are further committed to forming lasting relationships with parents that will foster feelings of trust and understanding for parents as well as increase our children’s success.
Carter G. Woodson will implement the following programs and activities that encourage parent and community involvement through our Title I program.
v The Title I Coordinator and other staff will coordinate an Annual Meeting or Open House to allow parents to meet their child’s teachers; to become involved in their child’s educational growth and to make active decisions in planning activities to help their child.
v The Title I Coordinator will survey parents to assess the specific needs of parents and allow parents to express their concerns, ideas and suggestions fro improving the Title I program elements.
v Meetings such as grade clusters meetings, Parents’ TAKS Nights and Family Math and Science Nights and will be advantageous to parents after having surveyed the needs of parents.
v Meetings and trainings will be held at various times to accommodate the needs of parents. Additionally, all information will be in a format that parents will be able to comprehend and utilize.
v Parent conferences will be scheduled to discuss the progress and performance of their child as well as student expectations for the grade level curriculum.
v A bi-annually newsletter will be developed to inform parents of activities, tips for safety, parenting tips and any other school related information that might be beneficial to parents and students.
v Our website at http://ms.houstonisd.org/woodsonMS/ will contain links to helpful information for parents
including information about the state test (TAKS), resources from the
Parents and community members are always welcomed at Woodson K-8 School. We encourage your input and feedback to improve student achievement and look forward to working with you this school year.
All planned activities will be in compliance with the HISD’s Title I Parent Involvement Policy.
