OLD BUSINESS:
None

NEW BUSINESS:
Jill Bailer will be taking Ms. Allen’s place on the committee because she was the next candidate with the most votes in last year’s election.

Committee Chairpersons were nominated and selected.  They are as follows:

  • Technology – Jami Arnst

  • Courtesy – Patty Conway & Ada Dolphus

  • Plant Operations – Daniel Sheppard

  • Security – Curtis Williams

  •  Professional Development – Shannon Williams

Mr. David Williams was selected as co-chair and Ms. Joanna Foreman was selected as secretary.

Ms. Diana DeLaRosa presented the status of our 2004-2005 SIP.  It consists of 12 major goals.  It should be finalized by October and available to staff.  We only met 30% of last year’s SIP goals.  We will continue to focus on the program Writing Across the Curriculum.

Mr. Antoine Hoyt proposed a discussion of the problem with teacher retention at Jane Long M.S.  He suggested it be added to the SIP as an accountability issue.  Ms. Patty Conway recommended a possible teacher survey to investigate the problem.   There was committee wide discussion on whether or not to survey the 30+ teachers who left Jane Long last year.  Finally, after an agricultural analogy (see Ms. Conway for details), it was decided to focus on the teachers remaining at Jane Long.  It ended with Mr. Hoyt agreeing to investigate survey possibilities.  We will resume this topic at the next SDMC meeting.

ATS procedures were discussed.  Ms. Diana DeLaRosa explained the new procedures for ATS established by administration.  ATS will be closed on Mondays because Mr. Will Evans will be receiving his daily 45 minute planning period on a once weekly basis during this time.   ATS will be open for students Tuesday – Friday.  Mr. Evans is now in charge of assignments and will be returning graded work to teachers upon student release.  Students are allowed to make up any work missed while in ATS.
