Student Uniform Dress Code
2007-2008 School Year
The Holland Shared Decision Making Committee, along with its faculty and staff, has decided that students will be required to wear uniform clothing during the 2007-08 school year. We have had great success with this practice in past years, since students in uniform appear less conscious of fashion and more concerned with academic achievement.
Uniforms are available at Fiesta, Wal-Mart, JC Penney and Fallas Parades at reasonable prices. Most stores offer a layaway plan so that clothing may be chosen in advance and paid for over time.
Below are the choices of clothing and colors from which students may choose:
Girls Boys
Navy or khaki colored uniform pants, Navy or khaki colored uniform pants.
skirts, jumpers, or capris. (Pants must be worn around
(Pants cannot be skintight. the waist.)
Skirts must be to the knee.) Navy, white, yellow, dark green,

or light blue polo shirts.
All shirts must be polo type with collars and sleeves. Pants may not be tied or rolled up at the bottom.
When the weather is cold, students may wear sweatshirts, sweaters, and jackets in the classroom. For safety reasons, all coats must be placed in student lockers at the beginning of the school day.
Shoe color is not specified this year, although students may not wear houseshoes, flip flops, sandals, backless shoes, footlets, or combat boots while on campus. Socks must be worn at all times.
Belts should be worn if pants can not stay up by themselves. If undershirts are worn, they must not be longer than the uniform shirt. T-shirts and other non-uniform shirts may not be worn over the uniform shirt.
These items are not allowed on the Holland Middle School Campus: hooded sweatshirts, sunglasses, shorts of any length, skorts, blue jeans of any color, oversized, baggy pants, hats, visors, headbands, dew rags, bandanas, spandex clothing, see-through clothing, low cut shirts, tank tops, heavy chains or pendants, rosaries worn as jewelry, light-up belt buckles, or any article of clothing related to drugs, alcohol, gangs, or sex. Expensive jewelry should be left at home. Body graffiti is prohibited and permanent tattoos must be covered by clothing.
Students violating the Student Uniform Dress Code will be subject to disciplinary action by school administrators. Parents will be notified in advance of any special days on which students may wear jeans, appropriate T-shirts, etc.
Parents needing temporary assistance in buying uniforms or any parent with questions may call (713) 671-3862.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.
