   Library Main Page      Example Outline

 Outlines
Outlines organize information for research papers, reports, and speeches. They can also organize notes from your reading, especially text books, and help as a study guide.
There are two (2) types of outlines:
Topic - uses words or phrases and good as a preliminary or review (study) outline
Sentence - uses complete sentences and good as a final outline and where more information is needed

All outlines have a title that is centered on the page.
Roman numerals are the main topics. (I., II., III., IV.)
Main topics tell the main idea and begins with a capital letter.
Capital letters and Arabic numerals are used for the subtopics and details. (A., B., C., 1., 2., 3.)
Subtopics give more information about main topics and begin with a capital letter.
Details give more information about a subtopic, begin with a capital letter, and can be a word,
 phrase, or a complete sentence.
If needed, small letters are used after the Arabic numerals. (a., b., c.)
Subtopics and details are indented and can never stand alone. If there is an A., there must be a B.
