Dear Parents and Guardians:
We have gotten the year off to a terrific
start. Thank you for
all of your efforts in getting your students here on time, in
uniform and ready to learn.
That is very important to the work we do here at school.
I would like to take a moment to clarify our drop-off and
pick-up procedures. I
think that they have gotten a little muddled since we have some
new parents and new officers on campus.
Morning Drop-off Procedures
All car riders are to be dropped off at the
front of the school on
Merrill Street
or on the west side on
Oak Ridge Street
.
If students need to cross the street, they should always cross
in front of their own car, as you are much more likely to be
aware of your child and wait for him/her to cross the street
than someone else who is late for work.
Students can be dropped off starting at 7:00 am, but no earlier, as we do not have staff on campus to
supervise them earlier than that.
Students should not be
dropped off on Pine Ridge Street.
That is specifically a teacher entrance and students are
not allowed to enter that parking lot for security reasons.
If students are dropped off there, they will be required
to walk around the school to the entrance on Merrill or
Oakridge.
After Noon Pick-up Procedures
Oak Ridge Street
is specifically designated for bus loading during dismissal
time. No
cars will be allowed to enter from Merrill
nor 11th Street, unless they are
residents who live on
Oak Ridge
and need to enter their personal driveway.
Merrill Street
is the designated spot for car riders to be picked up.
Parents will be
allowed to park along both sides of the street as long
as they stay in their cars and are waiting for their child.
All traffic on Merrill will be directed to use
Norhill Street
to exit the loading zone. Norhill
will become a ONE WAY street heading south.
Pine Ridge Street
may also be used to pick up car riders.
Parents may park along both sides of the street as long as they stay
in their cars and wait for directions from Hogg staff to exit.
Walkers
All students who walk home will be required
to exit from the east gate between the 500
Science
Building
and the Boiler Room.
Metro Bus Riders
All Metro riders will be required to exit
from the east gate on
Pine Ridge Street
and walk around to
11th street
to the Metro stop.
HISD Bus Riders
All HISD bus riders will be required to go
to the cafeteria and wait in the cafeteria until their bus
number is called.
After School Program Pick-up
All students who stay after school for P4L,
sports practice and/or detention should be picked up in the west
parking lot off of
Oak Ridge Street
.
These procedures are being put into place for the safety of
everyone involved. I
know that I can count on each and everyone of you to cooperate
and make our dismissal time safe and smooth.
I personally do duty almost every morning and every
afternoon, so I know that the traffic does get congested, but it
clears up completely by 4:10 -4:15, so if you don’t like being
caught up in all of that, I recommend you arrive at 4:15, when
the coast is clear.
Car riders who are not picked up on Merrill Street by 4:20 will
be taken over to the west parking lot on Oak Ridge for pick up,
as by then, most of the bus traffic is gone.
Please make
every effort to pick your child up no later than 4:15, as we all
have other work to do when the students go home.
Thank you in advance for your help to make this work!
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free
to call 713-802-4700.
Sincerely,
Imelda Medrano, Principal
