Graphing
The spreadsheet application also makes graphing easier. We will be graphing the total amounts from each spreadsheet in a line graph. We will have to resize the graphs in order to interpret them more accurately.

  1. First, open your Millionaire1XX spreadsheet.
  2. Highlight the numbers in column E.
  3. Click the Chart Wizard button on your tool bar, select LINE from the Chart type box and in the chart subtype box, select the middle one in the second row.(Line with markers displayed at each data value.)
  4. You will have to enlarge your chart to see the line. To do this, click and drag on one of the outside dots. Notice the slope of the line toward the end.
  5. Go to File and select Save to save the file.

Follow these same directions to create charts for Millionaire2XX, Millionaire3XX and Millionaire4XX..
Use the slopes of the lines to compare the answers to your questions on the previous page. What is the correlation between the slopes of the lines and the rates of increase?

Interpolation
You can do a month by month calculation to determine exactly how many months, weeks, and days each scenario will take to reach one million dollars.

Increasing Investment
In each of your spreadsheets,
    A. Add $1,000 to the principal in the first five years. Observe how these additions will accelerate your financial gains.
    B. Add $5,000 to the principal at year 5, year 10 and year 15. Observe how these additions will accelerate your financial gains.
