Math, Science,
and Technology
Magnet Program
"Conquering Tomorrow Today By Exploring the World Through Math,
Science, and Technology"
Curriculum
Fondren provides a rigorous curriculum that reaches beyond traditional
boundaries. In addition to a solid academic program in Math, Science,
and Technology, Fondren's magnet program offers exceptional
opportunities such as an intensive computer training lab where students
learn graphics, digital imaging, and animation. Fondren is also the
only middle school in HISD to lead an annual trip to Big Bend National
Park where students learn ecology, biology and geology firsthand.
Students
To qualify for Fondren's magnet program, students must meet the
requirements specified by HISD. This guarantees that the students in
our program are of the highest caliber. Every year, students who
graduate from Fondren's magnet program are accepted into the finest
magnet high schools including DeBakey High School for the Health
Professions, Bellaire Foreign Language, and the High School for the
Performing and Visual Arts.
Staff
Fondren's magnet program is staffed by highly qualified and dedicated
teachers from round the country and world. Our teachers actively and
continuously seek out professional development opportunities to ensure
that Fondren's students are never left behind. Additionally, every
teacher in our program is certified to tech G/T and Pre-AP.
The Winner's Circle
Our magnet students consistently score above the state and district
average on all subtests of TAKS. We will accept no less and will
increase our passing rate every year.
Preparing Students for the Future
Employment projections indicate the best job prospects will be in fields
that integrate Science, Mathematics, and Technology. The Houston
business community requires graduates who are fully prepared to work in
these fields. The Texas Medical Center, Johnson Space Center, petroleum
and chemical plants, engineering, finance, telecommunications, and
transportation are just some of the professions requiring Science, Math
and Technology skills. By focusing on these skills, Fondren's magnet
program prepares students for the future.
Even More!
Qualified Fondren magnet students have the opportunity to take
Pre-Advanced Placement (AP) classes with the possibility of earning two
high school credits. We offer both Integrated Physics/Chemistry and
Algebra I. In addition, Fondren magnet students are eligible to
participate in Drama, Choir, Band, Art, Football, Basketball,
Volleyball, Soccer, Track and Cross Country as well as National Junior
Honor Society, Beta Club, Yearbook, Name That Book, Spelling Bee, and
Step Team.
