Conference Time:
A Day/B Day
2:05 pm– 3:30 pm

I was
born in Bogota, Colombia. Math has always been my favorite subject. When
I was in high school I was a math tutor for many students. Upon graduation
I attended National Pedagogic University of Colombia where I graduated
with a masters degree in Math Education. Later I attended Libre University
of Brussels in Belgium where I graduated with a masters degree in computer
sciences applied to education. I've been a math teacher since 1984 and
I've worked with students from 4th to 12th grade as
well as university students. I was the head of the math department for the
National Pedagogic Institute for 10 years. I've also worked with teachers
on content and pedagogical strategies for teaching and learning
mathematics.
I worked at the Ministry of Education of Colombia as a board member
of the national-wide project Incorporation of New Technologies to
the Curriculum of Mathematics in Middle and High Schools in Colombia.
I had the opportunity to travel across my Country training teachers in the
use of TI graphing calculators in the classroom. I was a co-author of
books about the use of graphic calculators.
I have also been a facilitator and workshop leader in national
and international conferences in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile and
Guatemala.
I came to the Unites States in 2005 and started teaching for HISD at
Jane Long Middle School for one year and transferred to Burbank Middle
School in August 2006 where I am still working as an 8th grade
math teacher.
