Harlem Renaissance
Essayist/Poet Jean Toomer once stated, “A teacher is one who brings tools
and enables us to use them.” During the pass eleven years I have been the
bearer of the tools that determines the future successes or failures of
both students and teachers alike. I have held the posti8on of Social
Studies Department Chairperson, Mentor Teacher and Instructor in the
public, private, and collegiate education sector.
A native Houstonian, I graduated from Texas Southern
University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History. I continued my
studies at Houston Baptist University where I earned a Master of Liberal
Arts degree.
I have had the opportunity to gain a wealth of
knowledge and experience. I ‘vex applied and have been accepted to a
number of teacher institutes sponsored by such entities as the Houston
Independent School District, the National Endowment for Humanities, and
the Center for Civic Education These institutes focused on such topics as
Colonial America, the American Revolution, the Antebellum South, the Civil
War, and the Government/Constitution.
As a member of the Tiger Cluster, I desire to ignite a
passion for history in students. This is accomplished through
interweaving various instructional resources, strategies, and techniques
with Houston Independent School District’s CLEAR Curriculum. As a result,
Tiger student maintain Student Interactive Notebooks. This helps students
with the task of organizing and processing new knowledge.
I enjoy watching the Turner Classic Movie channel, entertaining, reading,
and visiting historical sites around the country.
