I taught in HISD for 33 years before
retiring to care for my Mother and Aunt.
I returned to teaching at
the request of Dr. Charlotte Parker because she needed a Computer Teacher.
My Teaching experience has been broad and exciting each year.
Teaching is my first love and according to my Mother, I
taught everyone as soon as I began to talk. I was born and raised in
Marshall, Texas. I began school at a very early age and therefore
graduated from high school the year of my 15th birthday.
On my return to Houston, Texas for my first teaching
assignment (First Grade) at Holden Elementary School, later I was
transferred Will Rogers Elementary in the “Crossover Era”. I enjoyed a
varied experience there at Rogers, each year was exciting as we were the
“Research and Development School” for the District. Our campus was the
first “Open Concept” school in the area and what an experience it was. I
returned to TSU my graduate degree, later, Southern Methodist University
for Early Childhood Study. I always say that I grew up and decided to
accept a Reading Position at Woodson Middle School – it was at Woodson
that the TECHNOLOGY Experience began. It was a new frontier for HISD and a
training Program was established and it was wonderful. I attended U of H
Clear Lake to study Instructional Technology. Taught a few more years
–and as I say “I Retired and Returned”.
I am the proud Mother of one daughter – Stephanie Parks
who presently resides in New York. birthday.
Excellence was always the focus in our home, schools and community. I
graduated from Wiley College. I wasn’t allowed to leave home because of
my age. However, after graduation, I began my teaching career in
Knoxville, Tennessee.
