Conference Time:
A Day 12:25pm-2:25pm
B Day 2:00pm-3:30pm
My name is Frances Cortina and I teach Bilingual / ESL
Reading. I have worked at Burbank Middle since 1994! I started working as
a teacher’s aide for the Bilingual Department and at the same time, worked
my way through college to become a teacher. This is my 8th year
teaching and I love it! I really enjoy teaching and learning alongside with
my students.
I attended Houston
Community College, the University of Houston and graduated from U of
H-Downtown Campus with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in
July, 2000.
In 2004-2005, I was selected as Burbank’s Bilingual Teacher of the Year.
During this same year, I was appointed Reading Department Chairperson, and
have lead our school’s Dynamic Reading Department ever since.
I enjoy attending different trainings/workshops because these
teach me an array of learning and teaching strategies. This helps me to
create high quality, interactive, and engaging instruction, plus an enriched
classroom environment. I look forward every school year for positive and
wonderful learning experiences. I love Burbank Middle, its faculty, staff,
students and community. I’m always eager in working together and as my
principal says, “achieving success as a team”!
