Byron remembers reading and falling in love with the line: "One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education," the vision of Teach for America—a non-profit organization that recruits top college graduates to teach for two years inner-city and rural schools. In 2003 Byron was accepted to the program, then remained at Burbank Middle School in Houston, Texas beyond his two year commitment, still serving there as history teacher and Social Studies Department Chair.
Byron was emcee at two LCMS National Youth Gatherings before audiences of over 30,000 each and has spoken at several LCMS Family Convocations, which helps to explain the 18-foot banner of himself that hangs on the wall in his classroom.
Byron’s favorite
roller coaster is Mr. Freeze. “It’s the first roller coaster that left me
speechless. I didn't have time to blink or scream. It was insane!”
