History

First opening its doors in 1957, F. M. Black Middle School was built to provide a quality education for students in the surrounding community. Named for Frank Murphy Black, a distinguished HISD administrator, the new school set out to promote high standards of academic achievement.

Many fine upstanding Houstonians have attended F. M. Black Middle School, including some of our teachers. Famous former students include actor Patrick Swayze and athlete Keenan McCardell.

The start of the 2008-2009 school year marks another page in the history of F. M. Black Middle School. It is up to us, the students, parents, school personnel, and community members to achieve the success that Mr. Black envisioned for the school when it was named for him.
