Pres. Obama Responds to BMS Seventh Graders

After the inauguration of Barack Obama, Ms. Mecum’s seventh-grade students wrote reflective letters to the president.  They shared their feelings, hopes, and concerns about their future.  They expressed their pride in having the first African American man become president and how that influenced their thinking regarding their own abilities.  Quite a while passed before we finally received an answer.  It’s awesome when mail from the White House comes to the classroom.  It makes the students feel validated and respected.  We received an autographed picture and a lovely thank you note.  These will be displayed in Ms. Mecum’s room along with other presidential memorabilia already hanging on the wall.
